Charity Fundraising Dinner 2015

I was invited to attend the Shakhsiyah Primary School fundraising event at Abbey Manor, as an alumni, on Saturday 19th December 2015. Upon arriving at the venue I, as well as many others, was greeted in the reception area with the warmth and hospitality of many familiar faces. The attendees mingled and viewed the various stalls, products and services on offer whilst waiting for the programme to begin.

By 7pm most guests were seated and Rizwan Hussain, the compere, started the event by inviting the children of ISF onto the stage to perform beautiful nasheeds and presentations, followed by various alumni who enlightened us on their journeys in life after leaving Shakhsiyah. Thereafter, I listened attentively to inspirational talks by Akram Khan Cheema, Ahmad Thomson and Farah Ahmed. Mr Rizwan Hussain then carried out an appeal for donations and pledges for the new school.

Straight after the fundraising we all enjoyed the delicious starters provided by Sapna Caterers’, the first course of a three course meal. As soon as the starters were eaten, Colin Nell, English football freestyler, sport choreographer, actor and sports model, was invited on stage. I dislike football very much and was dreading this part of the event. However, the performance put on by Mr. Nell put all my negativity towards football aside. To me, his performance was the best part of the event and I know many others agreed. The audience, both young and old, were captivated by his tricks, sought his autograph and hoped to see him again soon.

Then the auction commenced with football memorabilia, jewellery, clothing and a giant life-size teddy bear all being sold to the highest bidder. The second and third parts of the three course meal were served and we all tucked in heartily. The nasheed artist, Omar Esa sang beautiful nasheeds, along with the children from the audience, which touched my and the hearts of many others.

This night was definitely one I will remember, with approximately £60,000 raised. I as an ex-ISF member enjoyed the opportunity to meet and catch-up with former class mates after so long. It was also a brilliant and fun way to relive memories. Insha’Allah the efforts of all of the people who helped contribute to the success of the evening will be rewarded and never be forgotten. Ameen

Winter 2015 - Calling All Alumni

We are delighted to announce that we are launching our Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation’s Alumni Team, formally called ‘Shakhsiyah Youth’.  Since both Shakhsiyah schools (in London and Slough) opened in September 2002, approximately 300 children have attended the schools in either branch. Our former pupils have left the schools as responsible and confident people who understand how to lead, organise, co-operate and above all serve others in their local and global communities.

Joining the Shakhsiyah Youth team is the ideal way for our former pupils to network and collaborate with classmates, teachers and of course, keep in touch with the school itself. In addition, it will allow our former pupils a platform for young people to collaborate with others in working for the good of the local community by organising and running community youth projects. Working with Shakhsiyah Youth is a learning experience for those who participate, and helps develop our future generation.

There are many ways in which you can stay connected with the school. These include, but are not limited to:

•    Taking part in volunteering opportunities within the school itself; in the office, in the classrooms or on school trips
•    Visiting the children in assembly to inspire and encourage them
•    Through assisting in organising the charity fundraising events that take place throughout the year
•    Attending the school events as guest speakers or ‘Qari’
•    Writing regular blogs and articles on the Shakhsiyah Youth pages on our website
•    Organise and attend Alumni meetings
•    Organise and run Summer and/or Winter Camps
•    Organise clubs/activities/events for the community

Joining the ‘Shakhsiyah Youth’ Team could not be easier, just complete and return the form below and post/hand it to the school. In return we will enter your contact details into our database through which we will send you regular updates of school events and activities that might be of interest to you.

If you know anyone else who was a former pupil of the school, please encourage them to join too. We wouldn’t want anyone to miss out as we hope to develop the Alumni team over the coming months and years insha Allah.

Summer 2015: Summer Camp, Slough

From the 17th - 21st August 2015, Shakhsiyah Youth held their second highly successful ‘Summer Camp’. The camp offered the children a variety of fun and enriching activities. They took part in exciting science experiments including: making rockets, giant bubbles, bath bombs, slime-making, and coke and mentos explosions. In the arts and crafts sessions they decorated their own t-shirts and made their own wall-hangings using tie-dye, embroidery, sequins, fabric paints and appliqué. The children were also taught life-saving First Aid skills, as well as cookery sessions, and team building activities, such as constructing a giant rollercoaster and exploring the laws of physics behind theme park rides. Additionally the children had a daily halaqah throughout the week on the topic of ‘what is Shakhsiyah Islamiyah’ (how to build a good muslim character). Alhamdulilah it was an amazing week for both the Shakhsiyah Youth staff and the children; we received very positive feedback from children and parents alike.

Spring 2015: Qur'an Class Update

Alhamdulillah the classes have been running consistently throughout the academic year and the two groups of around twenty children are making good progress. Ustadh Hamza (Hafidhul Qur'an) is the amir of this project and is working hard to ensure all the children learn the Book of Allah.
