Shura Council

“And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves”

Ash Shuraa: 38

Every half term, two children from each primary class participate in a Shura Council meeting with the head teacher. These children represent their class’s views about topical school issues. Together they communicate, consider and make decisions to decide upon an action plan. For example, children devised a competition to design the new playground for the London school, planned and organised Mufti Day fundraising activities to raise money for new premises for the Slough school, and planned fundraising for charitable causes. Class representatives are rotated every half term so that each child has the opportunity to participate and take responsibility in the Shura Council each academic year.
