Shakhsiyah Education

 

Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation has grown out of the quest undertaken by home-schooling Muslim mothers to generate a contemporary education system from Qur’an, Sunnah and classical Islamic pedagogy. Shakhsiyah Education principles are built on the solid foundation of our deen and derived from the understanding of the deen as Iman, Islam and Ihsan. In Shakhsiyah Education, these foundational concepts of deen have been related to the foundational concepts of Islamic education, tarbiyah, ta’alim and taadib. In Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation schools and educational projects, the following principles shape every aspect of our work, and are the commitment which binds together a community of learning, which involves children, Muslim youth, teachers and parents.

 

Seven Principles of Shakhsiyah Education

 

The seven principles of Shakhsiyah education provide a framework to build and guide Muslims in developing educational projects, pedagogy and curricula that reflect our holistic concept of Islamic education i.e. education which builds all teaching and learning from an Islamic basis.

 

Niyyah (Intention): The principle of loving learning for the sake of Allah, growing towards Allah is the ultimate purpose of the human-being.

 

Shakhsiyah (Personalized Character Education): The principle of dynamic parent-teacher-learner relationships generated through human-scale personalized shakhsiyah education.

 

Qadwa (Teaching by Example): The principle of leading by example through continuous Islamic teacher education and the constant quest for ‘ilm, ihsan wa taqwa through research and learning.

 

Halaqah (Islamic Oral Pedagogy): The principle of halaqah as a prophetic pedagogy that synthesizes tarbiyah, ta’alim and taadib.

 

Minhaaj al Diraasiyah (Shakhsiyah Creative Curriculum): The principle of a holistic Islamic creative curriculum with the halaqah curriculum at its core.

 

Balagha (Qur’anic eloquence): The principle of Qur’anic Arabic as the language of Islam and the revival of Muslim heritage.

 

Taqdeer (Assessment for the Learner): The principle of the individual learner (Shakhs) at the heart of assessment so that assessment is formative, i.e. for the learners growth towards Allah.
