Farah Ahmed BA (Hons), PGCE, MEd (Cambridge)

 

Farah Ahmed is a founding trustee of Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation and a mother of 3 children. She currently holds the role of Director of Education and Research and oversees the education and research activities of the foundation.  Farah has worked in the field of Islamic education for over 20 years and has been researching and developing Islamic pedagogy and curricula drawn from Qur’anic and prophetic principles to devise the ‘Principles of Shakhsiyah Education’ to meet the needs of Muslim children in the 21st century. 

 

Farah completed a BA (Hons) in Philosophy from the University of Bristol and attained her PGCE from the institute of Education, University of London in 1994. She completed her Masters in Educational Research from the University of Cambridge in 2010 and has continued on to a PhD in Halaqah as dialogic pedagogy developing autonomy within an Islamic context. This work overlaps with a long-term collaborative action-research project being undertaken in the Slough branch of Shakhsiyah primary school. She has presented her research at conferences in the UK and abroad and has been involved in founding the Centre for Research and Evaluation in Muslim Education at the Institute of Education, University of London where she is currently a Visiting Research Associate.

 

Farah has written and developed the Halaqah curriculum, now widely used across Muslim schools in the UK and abroad and has published in academic journals.  She has developed and teaches Shakhsiyah Teacher Education courses which have been accredited by the College of Teachers, UK.

 

 

Foziya Reddy BA (Hons), PGCE

 

Foziya Reddy is a founding trustee of Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation. She is currently the Head teacher for the London branch and works closely with the senior leadership team across both branches to ensure consistency and continuity across branches. Foziya has over 18 years’ experience in the field of education, is a mother of 8 children and holds a BA (Hons) and a PGCE in primary education. She is currently involved in the delivering of Shakhsiyah CPD Courses. In 2011, the Association of Muslim Schools UK presented Foziya with an award for Transformational Leader of the Year. Foziya works closely with other educators and gives seminars, lectures and workshops on various topics. Foziya has a particular passion for the Qur’an and continuously promotes a Qur’an-centric approach in Shakhsiyah schools and other projects.

 

 

Nadia Ameen BA Linguistics

 

Nadia Ameen has been an educator for over 20 years and is a mother of 3 children. She is a founder member of ISF, having been involved with ISF since its early days as a home-schooling group and became a trustee in 2010. She is currently the Head of Arabic across both branches. Nadia is loved by both staff and children for her creative and innovative methods of teaching. Her students, some of whom she taught from the age of 2, have gone on to attain A*-B grades at GCSE and AS Level at ages 11-16. Nadia has devised and developed the ISF primary Arabic curriculum and interwoven it with the Shakhsiyah Creative Curriculum. Nadia has produced high quality schemes of work to complement the curriculum.

 

 

Nihara Alavi BSc (Hons), FCCA, ACA (ICASL)

 

Nihara Alavi has been a trustee of Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation since 2008. She completed a BSc (Hons) in Business Administration and went to complete the ACCA qualification in 2002 and is currently a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK.  Nihara has over 12 years experience in the field of Accountancy and is currently working as Financial Director in a UK company. Nihara established her own accountancy firm, EA consultants in 2011. Her experience as a qualified accountant is a great support to ISF as she oversees the financial aspects of the organisation. As a mother of two children she has a special interest in Islamic education and is fully committed to the work of ISF.

Alwiya Salim BSc (Hons), DipCIMA

 

Alwiya Salim became a trustee of ISF in May 2010. She has been involved in supplementary education set in a home-school environment and also completed the ISF Islamic Teacher Education Course at ISF in 2010.

 

Mariama Ceesay BA (Hons)

 

Mariama became an ISF trustee in May 2010. She has a total of 15 years experience in the field of education and a passion for home schooling. Mariama has UK and international experience in education including spending a year as the Head of the English Department at Al-Ain Model School for Girls in the U.A.E. After embracing Islam in 1997, she developed a particular interest in Islamic Education and subsequently enrolled on the ISF Islamic Teacher Education Course in 2009. Mariama is a mother of 8 children.

 

Dr. Nayyara Quraishy MBBS, D.Hom (Med), MHMA

 

Dr. Nayyara is an esteemed and well respected trustee of ISF. She is a highly educated mother of 2 and grandmother of 5 and currently practices homeopathic medicine part-time. Dr. Nayyara’s late husband, Mohammed Atiq Quraishy had over 30 years of service in the educational profession rising to the post of Senior Inspector of Schools in Kenya. He also completed a MEd at Brunel University, London, authored two O’Level text books for Islamic R.E. in Kenya, was published in Education Journals and was Chairman of Berkshire Association of Black Teachers. Dr Nayyara supported his work throughout and is delighted now to be involved in an organisation that shares his vision.

 

A Note of Thanks to Yusra Hamilton and Her Family

Yusra Hamilton and her family have been instrumental in laying the foundations of Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation. ISF would like to express their gratitude and appreciation of all the dedication and hard work that has been contributed by Yusra and her family over the years. She is a founding member of the school and was a long serving trustee of the school. Her parents Mr and Mrs Hamilton and her brother David Hamilton although non-Muslims equally participated and offered their services in service of the school in times of need through providing financial, emotional and physical support. We will never forget their work and support and would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to them all.

 

Thank you also to Uzma for her vision and ideas, Shagufta for her drive, Abida, Koser, Fehmida who gave up their homes, and all the other staff who have been involved over the years and are too many to mention.
