Physical Development

 

In Shakhsiyah schools, the principle focus of physical education and development is to ensure that children become physically confident, demonstrating good control and co-ordination in their movement and participation in group activities. Children should move confidently in a variety of ways, negotiating space safely and understand the importance of health and safety in physical activities. Children learn about the importance of physical exercise to health and fitness.

 

Early Years


In Early Years Physical development involves providing opportunities for children to be active and interactive and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. Children begin to build on their natural enthusiasm for movement, using it to explore and learn about their world. They start to work and play with other children in pairs and small groups. By watching, listening and experimenting, they develop their skills in movement and coordination, and enjoy expressing and testing themselves in a variety of situations during their outdoor and indoor play. Children learn about the importance of good health and how physical exercise and a healthy diet both contribute towards a healthy lifestyle.


Primary


In Year 1 and 2 children learn basic sport movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching. They develop their balance, agility and co-ordination through participating in activities including team games.


In Years 3-6 children follow a specific curriculum which teaches the martial art of Wing Chun. This curriculum is in line with our ethos of Shakhsiyah Development as it builds character, humility and discipline along with a sence of commitment and service. This form of martial arts teaches children confidence, coordination, focus and general fitness. Kung Fu can be roughly translated to 'Hard Work’; our children do indeed love hard work. Their enjoyment and enthusiasm is not hampered by the hard work and discipline demanded by Wing Chun. Children develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance. Through Martial Arts children also develop self-confidence and an understanding of self-defence.

Shakhsiyah School London:

Since 2002 the well-known Wing Chun expert, Sifu Abdul Malik has been leading the Year 3-6 Wing Chun lessons and children have benefitted immensely from his expertise and dedication. Unfortunately in December 2014 Sifu was unable to continue with this commitment. Children are currently following a broader physical education curriculum. We are aiming to begin a new Wing Chun programme as soon as possible.

Shakhsiyah School Slough:

Year 3-6 children in the Slough school attend the IMAS Centre on Friday afternoon from 3.30-5pm for their weekly P.E lesson. This includes the Integrated Martial Arts system which is built around the ancient discipline of Wing Chun. Children also engage in other types of Physical education at the centre.

 

Children’s physical development is also enhanced by activities which develop a broader range of physical skills including running and jumping, throwing and catching, team games and outdoor activities. Children gain a growing understanding of the importance of physical exercise to health and fitness.
