Children’s Voice and Independent Learning

Children’s voice is an essential aspect of children’s learning in with the Shakhsiyah Principle of Niyyah: loving learning for the sake of Allah; growing towards Allah is the ultimate purpose of the human being. Children develop an understanding of the importance of learning to their personal development and to their relationship with Allah ta’ala. Children learn to think about their existing knowledge and to choose what kinds o things they want to learn about. This happens naturally through free play in the Early Years and through the holistic thematic learning in primary. In Years 3-6 children have one afternoon a week of ‘Independent Learning’ where they engage in research working on a project they have chosen pursuing a topic or issue that interests them within the theme. These projects are then displayed in a mini exhibition at the end of the theme and other children and parents are welcome to come and enjoy this exhibition. Independent planning time gives children ownership of their learning, providing many opportunities to celebrate everyone's interests and achievements, promoting a culture of success in school.
